The court in the German city of Dresden announced the sentence for the participants in the robbery of the world-famous treasury “Green Collection”, which took place in 2019.

The treasury is located in the Zwinger palace complex in Dresden, the capital of the state of Saxony.

As reported by the German news agency DPAon May 16, the court found five persons involved in the case guilty and sentenced them to imprisonment for a term of 4 years 4 months to 6 years 3 months.

Six men aged 26 to 29 were accused of robbing the exhibits. One of them was acquitted by the court, the others will still be obliged to compensate the cost of the broken museum showcases and the broken lock.

The trial began in January 2022 and became sensational due to the possible affiliation of the accused to one of the criminal clans of Berlin, which includes people from Arab countries.

On November 25, 2019, the convicts stole 21 exhibits from the collection of the Saxon electors in just a few minutes.

The estimated value of the stolen items was 116.7 million euros. Another one million euros is estimated for the damage caused directly during the commission of the crime, including due to the arson of the switchboard in the city center.

During the investigation, the defendants returned 18 partially damaged objects. This affected the court’s verdict and the prison terms awarded.

The robbers were arrested in Berlin a few months after robbing the collection.
