In France, business creations still on the rise in September

by time news

For the fourth consecutive month, the number of business start-ups continued to rise thanks to the areas of catering, trade, real estate activities and construction.

The number of business creations in France increased for the fourth consecutive month in September, driven by the trade and catering sectors, INSEE reported on Tuesday. Compared to August, the increase has however slowed down with 1.5% of additional creations over one month, against 2.1% increase in August, according to a figure revised by the National Institute of Statistics.

A total of 91,961 new businesses were registered last month, including 56,206 micro-enterprises created by self-entrepreneurs. “Business start-ups rebound sharply in motor trade and repair» (+5.6% after -0.8% in August), and increased sharply in real estate activities (+11.3%), in accommodation and catering (+9.8%) and to a lesser degree in construction (+3.4%), details INSEE in its press release.

On the other hand, the number of new companies fell back in the transport and warehousing sector (-5.5% after +9.0% in August), which had experienced strong growth during the health crisis thanks to home delivery activities, as well as in business support (-1.1%). Over the last 12 months, between October 2021 and September 2022, the number of creations fell by 0.5% year-on-year. The number of new traditional companies decreased much more sharply (-10.7%) over the period than that of new auto-entrepreneurs (-0.8%), but the creation of companies increased sharply (+5.8%). With 789,348 companies created in France during the first nine months of the year, it is unlikely that creations will cross the one million mark at the end of the year, which had been close to in 2021, a record year in this area.
