In France, Gabonese activist Nina Dickambi vigorously pursues her fight against ritual crimes in Gabon

6 avril 2023

After Rouen last January, the Gabonese activist, Nina Dickambi, reaffirmed on Monday April 3, 2023 in Evreux, a French commune, prefecture of the Eure department in Normandy, her determination to denounce and fight against ritual crimes, a common practice during an election period in Gabon.

« They sow fear in homes, with an upsurge in the pre-election period. These are ritual crimes, or assassinations with the removal of organs. A phenomenon that deeply and seriously affects Gabon. A few months before the elections, we simply want, through this press briefing, to denounce and condemn the human sacrifices which aim to promote political or professional promotion for the sponsors. In my country Gabon, the assassin and the sponsor are rarely arrested and judged. Different constraints block legal action: threats and pressure against families, corruption of state agents, excessive cost of procedures or autopsies “, denounces this survivor, mother of three children.

“It has to stop. Human life is sacred and cannot be trivialized in Gabon,” hammered home the young Gabonese activist to loud and prolonged applause from the very colorful audience.

« Ritual crimes in Gabon are linked to a different perception of the power in place for years and of its sources, but the emergence of a country is based on the establishment of the rule of law, in which it is necessary to establish the meritocracy changing behavior, educating the Gabonese people, putting an end especially to impunity ,” specified Nina Dickambi.

We recall that a report from the association for the fight against ritual crimes (ALCR), published in March 2016, reported an increase in this type of murder since 2012.

In 2013, 40 bodies mutilated by ritual crimes were found compared to 38 in 2014, 45 in 2015, and 16 during the first quarter of 2016.
