In France, more than 180 candidates have withdrawn from participation in the second round of parliamentary elections.

Day.Az reported this on Tuesday, citing foreign media.

The deputies took this step to prevent the victory of opponents of the right-wing National Union party.

Recall that following the results of the first snap parliamentary elections held in France the day before, the far-right National Rally party took first place, gaining 33.4 percent of the vote. The left-wing New Popular Front party took second place with 27.98 percent of the vote. The party of French President Emmanuel Macron took third place in the first round of elections with 20.76 percent of the vote.

Representatives of Macron and the left have declared their readiness to oppose the National Rally party immediately after the first round. They have called on those who came in third to withdraw from the second round. In their opinion, this would transfer votes to the main opponents of the National Rally party.

National Rally leader Bardella condemned the alliance between the left and Macron supporters, calling it “an unconscionable and unnatural tactic.”
