Carlos Nassar undisputedly won the European title in the category up to 89 kg. He collected a fight of 391 kg.

Second was Antonino Pizzolato from Italy with 380 kg, and the bronze medal went to Marin Robu from Moldova with 378 kg.

Nassar claimed 224kg on his third attempt in the deadlift, which would have been a new world record in the move and bout, but bowed out after Pizzolato fouled out on his final attempt. Carlos had previously announced that his goal was the title, not the record.

The Zdravenyak from Cherven Bryag, who is still a junior, collected all the gold medals in a category – 176 in throwing, 215 in push-off and the duel.

Carlos took the title after the first movement, when he reached 176 kg with three perfect attempts. He thus broke the European and Under-23 world records and fell just two kilograms short of the men’s standard of 178kg to set a new continental record. The world in movement is 180 kg of the Chinese Dain Li.

At the same time, his biggest rival Antonio Pizzolato managed to throw off only 170 kg, as well as Andranik Karapetyan from Armenia. Ukrainian Maksim Dombovski was injured before the start, and Erhan Kofsha from Albania and American Nathan Damron caught zeros in the throw.

Carlos came to the presentation in Bulgarian costume and blew up the full “Arena Sofia”. Before the start of the category, queues for tickets formed to see the miracle in the bars.

This was our fourth title from the championship in Sofia after those of Angel Rusev, Gabriel Marinov and Bozhidar Andreev.
