REVIEW – A German fiction film deconstructs the extraordinary propaganda operation orchestrated for seven years by Joseph Goebbels and delves into the intimacy of the inner circle of Nazi leaders. An austere and terrifying closed session, inevitably, but fascinating.

The seventh art rarely offers such a surprise in the age of social networks, mobile phones and 24/7 news: a German film about the Third Reich, with Adolf Hitler and his damned soul Joseph Goebbels as the main characters, was filmed in complete secrecy in 2022 by director Joachim Lang. Titled Leaders and seducers (the leader and the seducer), it should be released in theaters across the Rhine at the beginning of 2024, before being broadcast on the ARD channel. He should logically have an international career, with negotiations continuing with streaming platforms.

The content, like the circumstances of the creation of this quasi-clandestine work, deserves debate. Since 1945, Germany has epidermistically feared any fiction relating to the Nazi past, for fear of promoting proximity between spectators and protagonists.
