The German party “Union-90” / “greens” at a meeting of the land council, which is its supreme body between party congresses and called the “small party congress”, on Sunday, October 17, in Berlin, an overwhelming majority of votes voted in favor of the transition from the so-called probing negotiations to coalition negotiations with social democrats and liberals.

Of the 70 voting delegates attending the meeting, only two voted against and one abstained. Thus, Soyuz-90 / Greens became the second, after the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), a party that expressed its readiness to start negotiations on the formation of a government coalition at the federal level, which in Germany is called a “traffic light” – by party colors its potential participants. Now only the liberals from the Free Democratic Party (FDP) have the floor.

Soyuz-90 / the Greens write a new chapter in party history

Green leader Robert Habeck has expressed confidence that his party will be a driving force for change and play an important role in the new “progressive government.” He also recalled that the Soyuz-90 / Greens party is about to become part of the federal government for the second time. “The reality is that right now we are writing a new chapter of the“ green ”history,” Habek noted, and further emphasized that the “greens” want to take responsibility and want to “shape reality”.

Most of the delegates of the small party congress expressed their consent to their leader. There was practically no harsh criticism on the forum. However, as a congress participant from Bochum, Cansin Köktürk, noted, the document, following the results of the so-called sounding negotiations, says nothing about the eradication of poverty in Germany. Other delegates also raised the issue of the need for action by the future federal government to combat poverty and protect the climate.

Several delegates recalled that important details should be clarified during the upcoming coalition talks – in particular, they pointed to the need to provide clear information on where the 500 billion euros needed for Germany will come from, aimed primarily at modernizing public infrastructure and climate protection.

Delegate Lasse Petersdotter from Kiel praised the agreement reached to raise the minimum wage in Germany to 12 euros per hour. At the same time, he called for a more specific formulation of climate protection objectives in the coalition negotiations. Greens should be careful to ensure that liberals do not draw boundaries while we describe hope, ”he cautioned.

Applause was applauded for the contribution made by the party co-chair, Annalena Baerbock, to the fight against climate change, thanks to her program of “immediate climate protection” in case the Greens succeed in entering the government. The text of the document contains specific proposals on how to overcome the climate crisis and limit the temperature rise by 1.5 degrees.

As expected, on Monday, October 18, the transition from probing talks to coalition talks will receive approval in the FDP. If the liberals give the green light for such consultations, it will practically mean that the SPD, Soyuz 90 / Greens and the FDP have eliminated the main differences and they will succeed in achieving their goal of forming a cabinet even before the Christmas holidays.
