Representatives of the Union 90/Greens party and the Free Democratic Party (FDP), which are members of the ruling Traffic Light coalition, sharply criticized the position of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz not to supply Taurus long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

The Chairman of the Bundestag (German Parliament) Defense Committee Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann (FDP) said on the Welt TV channel that Scholz is mistaken in asserting that Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) soldiers should go to Ukraine to train this type of weapon. “That’s just not true,” she said. “In this case, programming can take place in Germany, or Ukrainian soldiers should be trained here,” the politician argued. Strack-Zimmerman also dismissed concerns that Taurus missiles could be reprogrammed by the Ukrainian side to strike targets in Russia.

In Ukraine, according to her, there are already many programmable weapons made in Germany. “So if this is the argument, we must immediately withdraw all automatic weapons that react to attacks,” she concluded.

Scholz’s refusal to supply Taurus to Kyiv was also criticized by the Deputy Chairman of the Bundestag, Katrin Goering-Eckardt (Greens). “None of those who call for the Taurus to be delivered to Ukraine wants Germany to become a party to the war,” she told the RND editorial association. Criticism also came from the opposition bloc of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Unions (CDU/CSU). “The claim that the delivery of the Taurus will make Germany a party to the war is simply incorrect from a legal point of view and politically unsavory,” said CDU foreign policy spokesman Norbert Röttgen.
