It is a world first. A young engineer with a passion for board sports has just created the very first vending machine that delivers surfboards in Hossegor in the Landes. Since its installation on July 12, SeaLocker, that’s the name of this invention, works with an application on the phone. You order and a code allows you to recover your surf stored in the distributor.

“I was tired of constantly looking for surfing equipment when I was traveling. I’m sure I’m not the only one in this case. Not everyone is lucky enough to have their board easily transportable. The idea of distributing it easily was born like that,” says Nicolas Farolfi, who developed this innovative concept.

“The box is autonomous and it contains seven boards of different technical levels and of varying sizes. Once collected, your board must be returned before 11 p.m. We ask for five photos of the equipment from different angles to avoid recovering damaged equipment. We put the board down and the session is over. We have integrated a code on the board and you just have to approach it to the box so that it opens automatically”. As for the rental price, it is unique regardless of the equipment chosen: 20 euros for two hours.

Seduced by this original experience, the famous surf firm Ripcurl decided to make its boards available. A real recognition for the young entrepreneur. “When a global brand encourages you, it gives us even more energy to develop the concept and extend it to the entire Atlantic coast and why not to other oceans”.

In the meantime, the start-up SeaLocker has also joined forces with many board rental companies and surf schools on the Landes and Basque coasts and a new distributor is under construction with a capacity increased to ten boards for the summer of 2024.
