Doctors at a hospital in Punjab, India, removed more than 60 objects from the stomach of a patient who was experiencing abdominal pain.

After an X-ray examination, experts detected medallions, chains, nuts, screws, headphones and other household items that the man had ingested.

The patient, identified as Kuldeep Singh, 40, had been complaining of pain for two years, but sought emergency care after the pain increased and he had a high fever.

“He had serious injuries to his stomach, as he also swallowed sharp objects,” said the doctor who operated on him.

Disease that encouraged man to ingest 60 objects

According to the Hindustan Times portal, doctors diagnosed the Indian with pica syndrome, a mental health problem in which the patient “compulsively swallows items that are not food”.

The Indian’s relatives were surprised by the findings, as they had no idea how he managed to ingest all the items.

In addition to the pain, family members revealed that the man complained of stomach pain and was unable to sleep.

Doctors surgically removed the objects and the man’s condition is considered stable.

Technique that promises to fight cancer in 60 days

A team of researchers from Rice University in Texas (United States), said that curing cancer could soon be as easy as a few “taps on your cell phone”.

Scientists received US$45 million in funding (almost R$230 million) to create an implant-based treatment system, which, according to them, could reduce cancer mortality rates by 50%

The funds, awarded by the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Healthwill be used to develop “sense and respond implant technology”.

The team believes the implant is only necessary for short-term use, and has the potential to eradicate cancer in just 60 days.

The goal of the research is to improve the results of immunotherapy treatments for malignant tumors that are often difficult to treat.
