‘4 Cantos do Mundo’ is a podcast by the journalist Diogo Matos which has the zero came together. The concept is quite simple: interviews with Portuguese players/former players who have spent time abroad in at least four countries. More than the sporting side, we want to know the social/cultural aspect of these experiences. So, in addition to being able to count on a new interview on the podcast channels on the 10th and 26th of every month, you can also read excerpts from the conversations on our portal.

After visits to Italy, Turkey and Spain, Miguel Garcia He finished his career in India, a country where he represented North East United and Sporting Goa. Despite enjoying this experience on the Asian continent, the former right-back made no secret of the fact that he dealt with some issues that surprised him.

“NorthEast United’s home city was Guwahati, but we did the pre-season in Shillong Lajong. I went from Lisbon to Istanbul, from Istanbul to Mumbai, from Mumbai to Guwahati and from Guwahati to Shillong Lajong on a three-hour bus journey. I got there and just said “My God, where am I?” Shillong Lajong is a city where many streets were made of dirt, still hanging – just like we do with newspapers in kiosks – meat and fish on the street. I only remember the cars that were passing by, the dust incredible [risos] and to think it was a good few years late. However, we then went to Guwahati, a slightly better city in terms of services, restaurants and quality of training. The squad stayed in a hotel with quality even in terms of food, because we could not eat on the street», he began to say, then describing the incident in Goa:

«It is a great region, the quality of life was there. I lived in a condominium with a swimming pool, with a beach in front… Mumbai and Delhi are essential cities for anyone who wants to discover India; but, Goa is the best region to spend holidays. I met some people who still spoke Portuguese, I went to many restaurants and shops. It was a very good and worthwhile experience, I felt it was really worth it.”

Remembering that he shared a dressing room with players such as Capdevila, Simão Sabrosa and Silas in India, Miguel Garcia then summarized the importance of this experience in his life. «One of the times when I was training alone in India – I got there a little before my colleagues – I was running around the park and I only saw dirt roads. I just remember thinking to myself ‘Have I ever imagined myself playing in a country like India?’. It was impossible, but at the same time it was rewarding. Football gives us these things, the important thing is to make the most of these experiences. It’s not about the money or the football itself, but about the experiences that football gives us. In that sense, India was one of the most incredible experiences I had as a football player», he emphasized.
