(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 23 – Italy is among the countries with the worst data for “Healthcare-Associated” Infections, caused by multi-resistant germs to antibiotics, which represent the new pandemic: there are at least 430 thousand cases and they cause 11 thousand deaths per year, while the incidence is among the highest in Europe, 8.2 people with a Healthcare-Associated Infection for every 100 hospitalized, (data from the latest ECDC report). But infectious disease departments are present in only 30% of hospitals. This is what Massimo Andreoni, Scientific Director of the Italian Society of Infectious and Tropical Diseases (SIMIT), recalled in a note: “the Italian situation of Healthcare-Associated Infections makes appropriate prescription of antibiotic therapy and its rapid implementation essential to safeguard the patient’s health”, he underlines. And it is precisely to address this situation that an IT platform has been developed, the Remote Synchronous Infection Consultation (CADIS), which will allow significant improvements in patient health protection and survival. In Italy, there are very few healthcare facilities with an Infectious Diseases Operating Unit, he insists. For this reason, many facilities decide to stipulate an agreement for infectious disease consultancy, but: the available options are the transfer of the patient to the infectious disease specialist’s facility or remote consultancy, which usually occurs with inappropriate means of communication (such as email, WhatsApp), which do not take into account the sharing of sensitive data. The demand for infectious disease consultancy therefore remains largely unsatisfied; a solution therefore comes from the CADIS IT platform, which can support healthcare facilities and medical personnel in the diagnosis, prescription and treatment of hospital infections, with planning and provision of consultancy in real time for healthcare facilities. The platform manages the entire flow, from the request to the reporting and results of the consultancy. The interactions of the infectious disease specialist with healthcare workers and patients can take place synchronously and in real time via video, audio and by sharing clinical and care documents. The platform allows the recording of activities and diagnostic and therapeutic decisions, also allowing the remote monitoring of clinical parameters through wearable sensors.
