The negative developments surrounding the Centers for the Prevention of Addictions and the Promotion of Psychosocial Health, as they arise from the draft bill for psychiatric reform, were the subject of a discussion between the mayor of Ioannina and the president of the Prevention Center of N. Ioannina “Schedia” and deputy mayor of Social Solidarity – Protection, Preschool Age, Equality, Combating Discrimination and Gender-Based Violence Sofia Markoulas, the scientific manager of the “Plan” Vassilis Koutras and employees.

Mr. Begas was informed of the latest developments and, after his direct communication with the mayor of Athens, head of the “Self-Government Now” faction in the KEDE Haris Doukas, it was agreed to take the initiative to submit a resolution to the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece in favor of maintaining of the Addiction Prevention and Psychosocial Health Promotion Centers.
In fact, this will be done at the first meeting, on Wednesday, March 13, at which the deputy minister of the interior, Theodoris Livanios, will also be present.
“I estimate that our proposal will be adopted by all the mayors, as the Prevention Centers have a long history of providing local communities with multifaceted interventions. We must send a resounding message to the government to maintain them as approved prevention agencies”, emphasized Th. Begas, responding positively to the request for an update of the resolution from today’s municipal council.
“We hope that the initiative to raise the issue at the level of KEDE will act as a lever of pressure on the government, in order not to proceed with the abolition of the Prevention Centers”, said S. Markoula, for her part, thanking the mayor for the immediate his assistance, while, finally, the employees expressed their thanks for the initiative, as well as for the invitation for their delegation to attend the KEDE meeting.
