The previous earliest date of the year when +26 degrees was registered in Latvia was April 21, 1964, when the thermometer in Riga rose to +26.6 degrees.

By four in the afternoon, the maximum air temperature record for April 9 and also for the first decade of the month was broken in 17 observation stations, including in Riga, where +24.1 degrees was registered in the city center.

It has already been reported that the +25 degree mark was reached in Latvia in the first half of April for the first time in the history of observations. The previous record of +25 degrees of the year was beaten by eight days – the previous one was April 17, 1999, when the thermometer in Daugavpils rose to +25.1 degrees.

The all-month record has not been broken; it is +27.9 degrees on April 24, 2000 in Riga.

On Wednesday, a cold atmospheric front will cross Latvia from the west, which will bring gusty wind and cooler air, but the temperature in the eastern regions will rise above +20 degrees, forecasters predict.
