In London no Covid deaths in the last 24 hours

by time news

Time.news – For the first time in six months, no coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in London in the last 24 hours. The BBC reports, citing data from March 28, according to which no patient deaths have been recorded within 28 days of a positive Covid test.

At the height of the health emergency last April, around 230 deaths a day related to the disease were recorded in London. “This is a fantastic milestone, but we are a long way from returning to normal,” commented a doctor. It is the first time that daily Covid data shows zero deaths in the capital since September. London recorded 12% of deaths in the UK and was the epicenter of the first wave of the pandemic last year.

30 million have already received the first dose of the vaccine

30 million British people have received a first dose of the anti-Covid vaccine in three months of the vaccination campaign, and in the meantime the contagion rate is falling again: cases have dropped by a third to 3,862 and deaths have also decreased further, to only 19.

30.151 million people received their first dose between December 8 and March 27, about 57 percent of all adults. Another 3.5 million people had a second dose, which means 33.678 million doses in all were given in three months.

The milestone of 30 million doses was hailed with pride by both Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Health Minister Matt Hancock, and government vaccine officer Nadhim Zahawi.

Meanwhile, the country awaits the imminent arrival of over 500,000 doses of the new US vaccine, the Moderna one: it will add to the millions of doses of Pfizer and Oxford-AstraZeneca, already available in the UK, and will pave the way for immunization of those who they are under 50 years old.
