A small ad on Facebook that does not fail to amaze. The city of Loudun, north of Poitiers (Vienne), indicated a few days ago on its account, to put up for auction the old municipal summer swimming pool, closed since 2019. It has since been replaced by the center aquatic Aqua’Lud, inaugurated in 2021.
The starting price was set at 38,000 euros. Interested persons can visit the site Agorastorewhile two site visits will take place on September 5 and 26, before a sale scheduled for October 10-12.
Piece of heritage that is in danger of disappearing
This former summer swimming pool is an “emblematic site of the city, inaugurated on June 21, 1964”, by René Monory, when he was the mayor of the town, remember The New Republic. The programmed disappearance of this piece of heritage hurts the hearts of many inhabitants, nostalgic for the time when they made their first strokes there.
” What a pity. This swimming pool which has seen so many children learn to swim…” testifies Christiane Bodin on Facebook. “Even if I can understand the financial difficulties of the municipality to manage this heritage, this site should remain municipal, and it should above all not be sold to the private sector who may want to make housing and distort it” believes as for him Philippe Roux.
But other residents are already planning on the project that could see the light of day there. “Me, I would see a picnic area for families with games for children” says a Loudunais. “A petanque and shuffleboard bar with catering options,” suggests another. “A site to host festivals, concerts” points out yet another. The bets are open.
