In Madagascar, the country is trying to develop an under-exploited sector: fish farming. An alternative which makes it possible to “relieve” the halieutic resources on the coasts, but also in the central Highlands of the Big Island, to improve the incomes of the peasants and to fight against malnutrition. On the outskirts of the capital, Antananarivo, farmers practice “rice-fish farming”, which combines rice cultivation and fish farming.
