DECRYPTION – Located a few kilometers south of Bayonne, and fiercely defended against the devouring urbanization of seaside villas on the coast, the Errota Handia nature reserve is home to hundreds of animal species.
When Jean-François and Michel Terrasse were children, their mother took them to the mountain peaks of the Basque Country where they could observe vultures, following a method of her own.
“To attract them, she would tell us to lie on our backs and play dead, laughs Jean-François Terrasse. And it worked! After a while, more and more of these bone-breaking raptors circled overhead. They were superb!”
Is it the imprint left by these carefree years of frolicking freely in nature that today drives him to live in the very heart of his own nature reserve? In 1999, Jean-François Terrasse had the small haven of greenery where he settled more than forty years ago classified as such.
