A welcome midnight bath in the stifling heat. As reported BFM TV, more and more holidaymakers and residents of Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) go to cool off in the Mediterranean to cope with the heat wave after dark. For the fourth day in a row on Thursday, the department was kept on orange alert in the heat wave while an absolute minimum temperature record was beaten at the start of the week in Nice, with 28.6°C recorded by Météo-France.

“We can’t fit in the accommodation, it’s not possible, so it’s better to stay in the open air and close to the water, so we can swim”, confided Julie, a Niçoise, to our colleagues. “At home, I have air conditioning, but it’s expensive. Going out in the evening, it’s still more pleasant, you can swim, there are friends, it’s nice, ”says Adam.

For several days, tropical nights, where the thermometer does not drop below 20 degrees, follow one another on the Côte d’Azur. Last year, Météo-France recorded 104 tropical nights in Nice, 66 of which were consecutive from June 30 to September 4, a record. This year, the institute counts 62 tropical nights with nevertheless higher temperatures than in 2022.
