Eleven people escaped Monday, December 25 in the morning from the Paris-Vincennes administrative detention center (CRA), the police headquarters told Agence France-Presse (AFP), confirming information from the Figaro and the site Actu 17.

“An escape was noted this [lundi] morning at 9 o’clock. These are eleven individuals who forced a window after having succeeded in cutting the fence”according to the police headquarters, which specifies that there was no “alarm triggering”.

“Surveillance has been reinforced on the site and the escapees are actively sought”, we added from the same source. The eleven escapees are not on file for radicalization, according to another police source.

A fire and another escape attempt

A CRA is a closed place, guarded by the police, welcoming foreigners subject to a removal decision, pending their forced return. That of Paris-Vincennes, a building surrounded by fences located to the south-east of the capital, has 235 places.

This incident occurs two days after the outbreak of a fire, which did not cause any injuries, and an escape attempt in the same CRA. “Around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, police intervened to put out a mattress fire in a bedroom”, the police headquarters told AFP on Sunday. Due to the thick smoke, the detainees had “been evacuated” temporarily before returning to the premises.

Some then had “attempted to escape by cutting the fence or breaking windows” before calm returns, according to the same source. Around a hundred detainees had been evacuated and around fifty had tried to escape, a police union source added to AFP.
