At the “San Francesco di Paola” hospital in Pescopagano (Potenza), next Friday, September 20, the rehabilitation program for the wounded of the Ukrainian-Russian war will begin. The news was announced by the press office of the San Carlo Regional Hospital. The press release specifies that “the first group of Ukrainians, arriving in Basilicata for rehabilitation following injuries sustained in the conflict, will be welcomed in the Pescopagano Center, belonging to the Aor San Carlo”.

The general manager, Giuseppe Spera, highlighted that “after the presentation that took place last April, in the presence of the Minister of Health, the memorandum of understanding between our Company and the Lviv hospital can fully start its operational phase”.

Spera expressed his thanks “to all the actors who took part in the agreement that essentially opened a humanitarian and medical corridor aimed at providing assistance to the war wounded. From the municipality of Pescopagano, ready to provide reception and logistical support to patients, their families and the medical staff of the Lviv territorial health authority, to the 5P Europe Foundation which, with the protocol, strengthened the joint initiative launched in August 2023, with the support of the Italian Ministry of Health, between the Unbroken rehabilitation center, which is a project of the Lviv territorial health authority, ‘Multi-specialist clinical hospital for intensive methods of treatment and emergency medical care’, and other non-governmental organizations in the Lviv region to provide assistance to the wounded of the Ukrainian-Russian war. One more reason – concluded the general director – to be proud of our Company and its hospital in Pescopagano, designated as a site for high-level rehabilitation and included in the network of other Italian centers specialized in prosthetics”.

For the regional health councilor, Cosimo Latronico, “Basilicata demonstrates its commitment to supporting Ukrainian citizens affected by the war through a complete and integrated rehabilitation program. Not only medical assistance, therefore, but also psychological support and social inclusion in the wake of a concrete solidarity that our region has always demonstrated since the beginning of the conflict. It is a valid example of support and cooperation – concluded Latronico – fueled by the great sensitivity of the Lucanians”.

“This project – highlighted the mayor of Pescopagano, Francesco Ambrosini – represents a concrete commitment to solidarity and justice and reflects the highest values of our community, such as respect for human dignity and support for those who have suffered the most tragic consequences of conflicts”.
