It happened in Calendasco, 2,500 souls in the province of Piacenza. The municipal administration returned the project for a logistics hub on an area of 234,000 square meters to the sender without hesitation. The company that presented the project is Iec Log 2 of Milan. It consisted of two sheds of 100 square meters each with attached parking lots. The project would have created, according to the company’s estimates, around 100 jobs. Instead, the administration backed off.
Last Thursday the mayor, Filippo Zangrandi, at the head of a center-left civic list, signed the resolution that with a swipe of the sponge cancels the project, restoring the intended use to green. “We inherited the project from the previous administration. The Municipality would have earned 1,100,000 euros in the form of urbanization charges, not counting the IMU over the years – says the mayor -. In the end, the council voted to block the logistics hub. In all, 300,000 square meters will remain green. An opposition councilor also voted with us ».
But the lost jobs? “Reducing land use is a serious goal for us. And then do you know the traffic that this logistics hub would generate? It was necessary to choose between work and environment. There is no lack of work here, we have chosen the environment ».
