Coming from Colombia, Iran or Syria, eight members of the largest delegation of refugee paraathletes have packed the train and known each other in Reims. Florence Brochoire photographed them during their training.

Iranian table tennis player, Sayed Amir Hossein Pour, 24 years old, won two gold medals at the 2021 Asian Youth Paralympics in Bahrain.

Ibrahim al Hussein, 35, is participating in the Games for the third consecutive edition as a representative of the Refugee Paralympic Team. Having already competed in the para-zero, he will compete in the paratriathlon in Paris. At the Rio 2016 opening ceremony, Ibrahim – who lost his leg in Syria in an explosion while trying to save a friend – was the flag bearer for the Paralympic refugee team.

Afghan taekwondo artist Zakia Khudadadi, 25, fled in 2021 the Taliban regime which threatened her and banned her from practicing her sport. Since then, he has lived in France and studied at Insep.

Weightlifter Hadi Darvish, 37, is from Iran. He spent two years in a refugee camp in Germany before he could play his sport.

Wheelchair athlete Amelio Castro Grueso, originally from Colombia, won the bronze medal in the men’s epee category B at the 2024 American Cycling League in Brazil.
