Demonstrating once again the special relationship he maintains with his daughter, and how attentive he is to Princess Leonor’s military training, King Felipe VI has made a surprise visit to the heir to the throne during the military maneuver exercises he has carried out in the last few days with his fellow cadets from the Zaragoza Academy at the San Gregorio National Training Center.
Although the visit – which was not on their official agenda – took place last Friday, it was not until this Monday morning when Casa Real has distributed the images of this very special reunion which reflects not only the monarch’s pride in seeing the progress of the Princess of Asturias after six months of military training, but also how close father and daughter are.
Firstly, Don Felipe supervised one of the training that Leonor and her companions from the 22nd company carried out at the San Gregorio training field, the largest in Europe, between March 11 and 16, to strengthen the ability physical of the cadets, perfect their leadership preparation to remove the platoon, and do individual shooting instruction with live-fire assault practice.
Dressed in a camouflage uniform, protective glasses, a helmet, and a rifle in her hand, the future Queen of Spain performed her training exercises in the open field under the attentive – and proud – gaze of her father, also wearing the training uniform of the Army, who did not hesitate to pat him affectionately on the back after the maneuvers.
Once the training is completed, King Felipe did not miss the opportunity to accompany his daughter and her companions in the dining room, sharing lunchtime with them. The menu, seafood rice and a pear for dessert, which His Majesty did not taste as he was the only one at the table without a tray in front of him. A time that she took advantage of to chat with the cadets and give them some advice, and in which Leonor did not miss a detail of what her father was telling them, with which she exchanged the occasional knowing look.
This Monday the Princess of Asturias traveled to Toledo to begin an Army course to become a student second lieutenant, leaving behind the six months as ‘Cadet Borbón Ortiz’ and beginning the final stretch of her training in the Army. Leonor will be installed all this week at the Infantry Academy and, starting next Saturday, He will enjoy his Easter holidays, of which at the moment no details have been revealed.
