/ Three Republicans in the US Senate called on Sunday to “strike Iran”, following the attack that targeted US forces in northeastern Jordan, according to Washington, which led to the killing of 3 soldiers and the injury of 25 others.

Washington accused Iran-backed armed factions of being behind the attack, vowing to respond “at a time and in a manner of our choosing,” according to a White House statement.

“The Biden administration can eliminate all the Iranian proxies it wants, but that will not deter Iranian aggression,” said Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.

“I call on the Biden administration to strike targets of importance inside Iran, not only in retaliation for the deaths of our troops, but as a deterrent against future aggression,” he added.

Republican Senator Tom Cotton called for a “devastating military response” to what he described as “Iranian terrorist forces,” describing Biden as “a coward unless he does so.”

“Joe Biden has emboldened Iran for years by tolerating attacks on our forces,” Cotton said. “He has allowed our forces to be put in harm’s way, and now 3 have been killed and dozens wounded, as I have been predicting for months.”

“The only response to these attacks must be devastating military retaliation against Iranian terrorist forces, both in Iran and across the Middle East,” he continued.

“Anything less will confirm that Joe Biden is a coward who does not deserve to be commander in chief,” Cotton added.

Republican Senator John Cornyn also called, in a tweet on his X account, to “target Tehran.”

In the same context, US House Speaker Mike Johnson called for a “clear message to the world” after the attack on US forces.

“We are saddened by the loss of three American heroes in Jordan last night, and we are praying for their families and for the other 25 service members who were injured,” Johnson said.

“America must send a clear message to the world that attacks on our forces will not be tolerated,” he continued.
