On Saturday night (7), São Paulo faced Vasco da Gama at the São Januário Stadium in the 26th round of the 2023 Brazilian Championship and drew 0-0 with the home team.
Tricolor started the game with Rafael in goal; Nathan, Diego Costa, Alan Franco and Caio Paulista in defense; Pablo Maia, Alisson, Wellington Rato and Rodrigo Nestor in midfield and James Rodríguez and Lucas in attack.
In the first half, São Paulo’s first big chance came through a shot from Wellington Rato, after the goalkeeper had hit a corner kick from James, in the 35th minute. Shortly afterwards, Rato took a great free kick, but the goalkeeper found the ball at the foot of the post.
Near the end of the stage, James tried to pass to Nestor, but Vasco’s Léo’s arm prevented the move: penalty awarded to Tricolor. Wellington Rato, at 45, took the shot, but goalkeeper Léo Jardim saved it. On the rebound: James shot low, but the ball went to the right of the post.
Before the referee’s whistle, the opposing archer saved the home team again with Lucas’s cross kick.
In the second half, under heavy rain, the game took on a different rhythm and Vasco got scared right from the start, hitting a ball against the post. Rafael, Tricolor’s goalkeeper, became a standout with good saves. In stoppage time, Michel Araujo had a good chance with a cross shot, but the ball went out and the score was unchanged.
São Paulo now has 35 points in the competition, remaining in 10th place in the championship. Tricolor’s next game for the Brasileirão will be on Wednesday, October 18th, at 8 pm, at the Hailé Pinheiro stadium against Goiás.
