According to the canton’s Mobility Plan, one of the last actions taken by the old administration was to increase the number of taxis in the different cooperatives in Riobamba, a decision that not many agree with, and for others it is a solution due to the lack of vehicles in certain areas of the city.

In Riobamba the number of taxis increased, Darío Becerra, president of the Taxi Chamber, explained that this was the reason for the increase. ‘Jaime’, a taxi driver, does not think it is an appropriate measure and he questioned the existence of a study that guarantees this need. The union leader said that there is a study that supports this action and that it will serve to improve the service in relation to the lack of taxis in the rural parishes of the canton.
Difficulty. However, the majority of taxis are concentrated in the center due to the dependencies that exist, and that generates congestion. Becerra added that in his cooperative they added about 8 new cars, and this was considered by each taxi cooperative.
