In Rome, the TimVision Floating Theater becomes Summer Fest

The TimVision Floating Theater returns to Rome and this second edition becomes Summer Fest to animate the Roman summer from 24 June to 9 September with numerous guests, previews, meetings, themed reviews, screenings of great classics, cult, genre films, restored films, directorial debuts, works from all over the world and also titles proposed in the original language with Italian subtitles. The initiative was born from an idea of ​​Alice nella Città in collaboration with Eur Spa and with the partnership of TimVision and will take place on the only eco-friendly floating arena immersed in an urban context, with 150 seats and audio broadcast through wireless headphones.


To accompany the festival in its second and renewed edition, a godmother, the actress and presenter Andrea Delogu, and a godfather, the Italian-Canadian actor star of the TV series “Grey’s Anatomy”, Giacomo Gianniotti. Opening in music on Thursday 24 June with the awaited Italian premiere of “Sognando a New York – In the Heights” film version of the musical of the same name which arrives in Rome after inaugurating the Tribeca Film Festival 2021 in New York. The film is directed by Jon M. Chu with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, libretto by Quiara Alegría Hudes and concept by Miranda himself and which will be distributed in Italy by Warner Bros. Pictures in cinemas starting from 22 July.

There are many events on the bill starting with the cycle dedicated to the first works nominated for the David di Donatello and created in collaboration with the Accademia del Cinema Italiano Foundation. The first appointment will be Thursday 24 June with Pietro Castellitto winner as best new director this year with “I predatori”, it will then be the turn of “Non hate” by Mauro Mancini, “Magari” by Ginevra Elkann, “Sul più bello” by Alice Filippi and “Tolo Tolo” by Luca Medici aka Checco Zalone. The premiere will be part of the “Waiting for Alice” film cycle aimed at the family and young target. From the collaboration with the Cinema per Roma Foundation, a series of events dedicated to “cinema and women”. It begins on Friday 25 June with “Cursed Spring” presented by the director Elisa Amoruso and the cast, including the young protagonist Emma Fasano. It continues with Sophie Derapse’s “Antigone”, Phyllida Lloyd’s “Her”, Lulu Wang’s “The Farewell” and Filippo Meneghetti’s “Deux”.

The TimVision Floating Theater Summer Fest joins, on Monday 28 June, the world day of LGBT pride with an evening organized in collaboration with the Mario Mieli homosexual culture club which will also be attended by the TV presenter and theater director Pino Strabioli, the director Karole Di Tommaso and the actress Linda Caridi and which foresees the screening of “Stonewall” by Roland Emmerich. From the Eur arena, Alice nella Città will ideally also kick off the White Nights of Cinema scheduled for 2 and 3 July throughout Italy as part of the national #soloalcinema relaunch project.

The special events in July also include the screening of the restored version of “The Hundred Steps” by Marco Tullio Giordana on Friday 16 July, introduced by the director himself, on the eve of the anniversary of the death of judge Paolo Borsellino. And the tributes, organized, together with the Experimental Center of Cinematography, to two great interpreters of Italian cinema: Monica Vitti and Nino Manfredi with the projections of the restored versions of “The girl with the gun” by Mario Monicelli and “Bread and chocolate” by Franco Brusati. A novelty this year is the TimVision Audience Award: viewers will be able to express their preference for one of the titles of the last film seasons screened at the festival. The most voted film will be awarded in September at the end of the event.
