A major fire devastated two disused buildings in Rouen on Saturday evening, September 30, releasing significant plumes of smoke above the city.

According to firefighters, the fire broke out on the first floor of a building “disused but probably squatted” in the Saint-Julien district. These are the glass and steel buildings of the Pépinières, located on the left bank of the city. Emergency services were notified around 6 p.m. and noticed several fires breaking out on the floors when they arrived.

“The fire is probably linked to a squat, there are currently no victims, the two buildings are partially collapsed”declared the mayor of Rouen, Nicolas Mayer-Rossigno, to Agence France-Presse “The fire seems contained at this time, the risk of spread now seems to have been eliminated”he added around midnight.
