In Russia, the update of peak rates for coronavirus infection continues. The daily increase in new infections exceeded 34 thousand. “Over the past 24 hours in Russia, there have been 34,303 confirmed cases of new coronavirus infection COVID-19 in 85 regions, including 2,925 (8.5%) actively detected without clinical manifestations,” the operational headquarters said in a statement released on Sunday. 17 October.

The number of infections, thus, turned out to be 1,095 more than the day before. An increase in infection is observed in almost all regions of the country, in Moscow, 6,740 new infections were detected per day, in St. Petersburg – 3,323.

In the Moscow region on October 17, the maximum number of infected people was detected during the entire pandemic in Russia (2,759 cases). The five regions-“anti-leaders” in terms of infections also included the Samara region – 896 cases and the Nizhny Novgorod region – 711.

Mortality rates decreased slightly

Mortality rates are down slightly from Saturday’s peaks. Over the past day, 997 deaths from covid were recorded in Russia – five less than the day before. In total, during the pandemic, 7,992,687 cases of coronavirus infection and 223,312 deaths from covid have already been registered in Russia.

The growth of infection in Russia has been observed for many weeks. Experts explain this by the low level of vaccination among the population and the absence of strict restrictive measures.
