Eight people have died and ten have been hospitalized from their injuries after a hurricane uprooted trees at a campsite in western Russia’s Republic of Maris, authorities said on Sunday (July 30th). local.
“Eight people have died, according to the latest information I have, due to the hurricane yesterday”declared the mayor of the city of Yoshkar-Ola, capital of the Republic of Maris, Evgueni Maslov, to Agence France-Presse.
Nearly 100 rescuers were deployed on the ground to clean up the debris at a campsite near Lake Yalchik, the Russian Emergencies Ministry said, adding that 27 people were injured. “The holidaymakers had not taken the weather forecast into account”added the ministry on Telegram.
Several hundred people were camping on the shores of Lake Yalchik when the hurricane landed, the ministry added.
