For the second day in a row, more than 37 thousand cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus were detected in Russia. According to data published by the federal operational headquarters for combating COVID-19 on Saturday, October 23, over the past day, 37,678 new cases of coronavirus infection were detected in the country – the highest figure since the beginning of the pandemic. The total number of people infected in Russia was 8,205,983.

Daily death continues to grow. According to the headquarters, over the past 24 hours, 1,075 patients have died in the country from the consequences of the pulmonary disease COVID-19 and its consequences. And this is also the new peak value. Maximum daily mortality is being updated in Russia for the seventh day in a row. The total number of deaths from COVID-19 in the country since the beginning of the pandemic, according to official figures, has reached 229,528.

Against the backdrop of the continuing increase in the number of cases for several weeks, President Vladimir Putin announced “non-working days” in the country from October 30 to November 7. In regions with the most difficult epidemiological situation, they will begin on October 23. Putin clarified that, if necessary, the restrictions can be extended after November 7.
