In Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique), it is possible to visit the submarine L’Espadon.

Despite the good weather on the surface, many still dive into the bowels of a 77-meter-long floating monument in Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique), the submarine L’Espadon. “It’s super realistic, especially for the head”, says a visitor. Between the main passageway, the listening post and the torpedo room, the immersive visit lasts about 30 minutes. After a 12-month restoration, completed last year, it was a success, with 7,000 visitors in three weeks.

“It’s a great discovery”

“The submarine has always been a hit, it has been there since 1986 in Saint-Nazaire, it is a visit that is extremely popular”says Véronique Martineau, superviseuse of the fortified lock. “I didn’t think there was so much inside with so many sailors who were going to stay very long, so for me it’s a great discovery”, says a child. The former Cold War submarine is approaching the symbolic milestone of three million visitors since it opened to the public.
