/ US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken arrived in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Monday, in his first stop in the Middle East, aiming to ensure a new truce between Israel and Hamas.

On his fifth visit to the region since Hamas launched an attack on Israeli settlements on October 7, Blinken will stop in Saudi Arabia, Israel, Egypt and Qatar.

Before the visit, Blinken stressed the need to “respond urgently to the humanitarian needs in Gaza,” after aid groups repeatedly sounded the alarm about the devastating repercussions of the war, which is approaching its fifth month, on the besieged enclave.
