Miguel García Veliz, director of the Municipal Agricultural Company, explained that to achieve the accumulated production plan they worked in close collaboration with scientific centers, especially with the National Research Institute of Tropical Viands (INIVIT), for the sweet potato, which made it possible to clone the crop to guarantee planting all year round.
Following this line, the Güireña company and its productive methods have clones of taro, cassava, banana, vegetables such as tomatoes and chili peppers and some grains, all in order to achieve higher yields and better performance in the fields.
In the case of fruit trees such as avocado, mango, guava, sugar apple and coconut, they have the propagation material of varieties that have been introduced to the different productive forms. Currently the company has a total area of 8,351.97 hectares, of which 6,732 are arable.
To guarantee phytosanitary protection, the company maintains the Entomophages and Entomopathogens Reproduction Center (CREE) active, with the production of 4 lines. The collaboration of this center with producers allows achieving higher levels of performance in the fields.
