Senegalese political opponent Ousmane Sonko was sentenced on Thursday June 1 to two years in prison for “youth corruption” by a Dakar court. The politician was accused of repeatedly raping Adji Sarr, a former employee of a massage parlour. On May 24, the prosecutor requested ten years in prison for rape or five years for youth corruption against the opponent.

Ousmane Sonko, who was recluse at the time of his trial in his stronghold of Ziguinchor, the city in the south of the country of which he is mayor, has since been “brought back by force” at his home in Dakar on Sunday. The declared presidential candidate of 2024 denounces a plot to condemn him and remove him from the political game.

In Dakar, the deliberation of his trial was eagerly awaited, provoking several clashes between the police and the youth in recent weeks.
