Petersburg racers became involved in a criminal case initiated on the fact of actions that threaten the safe operation of vehicles (Article 267.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The punishment for this crime can be a fine of up to 300 thousand rubles, restriction of freedom for up to two years or imprisonment for the same period. The police announced the initiation of a criminal case today.

The police received the first information about the actions of street racers on the night of November 2, 2021 from eyewitnesses. They reported that the racers were racing along the Ring Road towards Kronstadt, and their accomplices blocked the entrance to the dam from the Primorskoye Highway. The traffic police arrived at the scene.

“Three drivers of foreign cars who participated in the race were detained and taken to the police. Their cars were placed on the site of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Primorsky District. In relation to four more citizens, protocols on administrative offenses have been drawn up under part one of Article 12.5 and part two of Article 12.37 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation, ”said Irina Volk, an official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As explained to Kommersant in the St. Petersburg police, on November 2, 2021, a criminal case was opened on the fact of actions that threaten the safe operation of vehicles. But literally on the same night, the race was repeated, however, with other participants.

According to Irina Volk, on the night of November 3, street racers tried to repeat the race along the Ring Road. Travel speed reached 300 km / h. The police stopped the violators and drew up administrative protocols against them. But, perhaps, they will also face criminal prosecution – at present, the security forces are checking the involvement of those stopped in the commission of a crime within the framework of a criminal case initiated the day before.
