/ US officials said that US President Joe Biden gave orders to his advisors to discuss options to respond to the attack that targeted a military base in northeastern Jordan, which resulted in the death of 3 US soldiers and the injury of about 40 others.

The Politico news website quoted American officials, without revealing their identities, as saying that among the deterrent options on the table are targeting Iranian individuals in Syria or Iraq or Iranian naval assets in the Arabian Gulf.

He pointed out that once the president gives the green light, the response will begin within two days and will come in waves against a group of targets.

The Pentagon said it does not believe Iran is seeking war with the United States and that Washington is not seeking war either.

Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh blamed Iran for helping militant groups attack the United States, saying the latest attack bore the “fingerprints” of Iran-backed Kataib Hezbollah, adding that the number of wounded in the attack was likely to rise.

She added, “We do not seek war, but we will move and respond to the attacks on our forces,” stressing that “Jordan’s attack is escalatory and tragic at the same time, and we will respond at the appropriate time.”

Singh said the American soldiers killed in the Jordan attack were from the Army Corps of Engineers, noting that the attack is still under investigation and she will not reveal details at this time.

American media reported that President Joe Biden met with the national security team to decide on the options available to respond to the attack that targeted an American base inside the Jordanian border, which resulted in the death of three soldiers and the injury of dozens.

A White House spokesman confirmed on Monday that the United States is working to respond “appropriately” to the drone attack on a base in Jordan, but he said at the same time that Washington does not want a war with Tehran, which has denied involvement in the attack.

For his part, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin pledged that the United States would take “all necessary measures” to defend US forces, expressing his anger and regret over the attack that targeted the military base in northeastern Jordan.
