In Tel Aviv, a policy document is being formulated to resolve the rental crisis. Will it succeed?

“I have long been concerned about the housing crisis and the exorbitant prices in the rental market in the country and in Tel Aviv-Yafo,” wrote Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai, referring to the rent crisis in the country and in Tel Aviv in particular.

● “We have become the new poor”: Rental prices are skyrocketing, and the new crisis is already on the ground

Huldai noted in a post he posted on social media that the municipality is “working hard these days,” in his words, “on formulating a pan-urban housing policy document, which deals mostly with residential solutions from the world of rent at a market price and a discounted price. Details will be published soon.”

It should be noted that this is not the first time that Huldai has offered solutions to the housing crisis. Among his other attempts, he proposed the “City for All of Us” program, which was said to be “intended for the tidy.” Another experience was in the Shapira neighborhood, where, according to him, “the municipality took it upon itself a few years ago to lead the issue and create an infrastructure that can also assist other authorities in the absence of a government and legislative response to affordable housing.” Well, families staffed the venture, but in retrospect they were asked to make way for new families without getting an alternative solution.

In the latest statement, however, Huldai stressed that “this is a long-term policy,” which will offer, in his words, a variety of solutions with broad economic implications. “Naturally, this is not a retrieval: the program has been worked on by the municipality for a long time, in order to provide optimal solutions, in accordance with the limitations.”

He said, “In order to implement the municipal policy, a new housing administration will be established in the municipality in the coming weeks. The administration will also be responsible for advancing policy and changing legislation in the field of housing with government ministries, “And the Israeli government expects to promote significant social housing solutions, in order to reduce gaps and get Israel out of the housing crisis it is in.”
