In terms of the number of participants and scale, Azerbaijan could double gas exports to Europe as it prepares to host the next Climate Summit in 2024″>COP29 will be the largest event to be hosted by Azerbaijan.
As Day.Az reported on Monday with reference to Trend, this was stated by the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer for Operations of the COP29 operating company Narmin Dzharchalova in her speech during the first press conference of the COP29 Presidency.
According to her, the Republic of Azerbaijan has so far hosted various international events.
“However, in terms of the number of participants and scale, COP29 will be the largest event that Azerbaijan will host. The Baku Olympic Stadium was chosen as the venue for the event. This decision was made taking into account consultations with the UN and the experience of previous COP events. So far, during large-scale events held in this space, the efficient use and sustainability of the infrastructure was fully ensured,” she said.
She mentioned that the site plan is being developed in coordination with the UN team to ensure that the Blue and Green Zones that will be organized during COP29 are compactly located within the stadium and minimize possible negative impacts on the environment.
“Additional structures will be installed to organize all plenary sessions of the conference in a single space around the stadium. All accommodation options will soon be available on a single international platform. The COP29 volunteer program will be announced soon,” she added.
It should be noted that on April 15, the first press conference was held at the COP29 General Staff in connection with the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in November 2024 in Azerbaijan. Speakers at the event included COP29 President-designate Mukhtar Babayev, COP29 Chief Negotiator Yalchin Rafiev, COP29 General Director Elnur Soltanov, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of the COP29 Operating Company Narmin Dzharchalova, UN High-Level Climate Leader Nigar Arpadarai, COP29 Youth Climate Advocate in Azerbaijan Leyla Hasanova.
