Hit by the knife attack in Annecy and trapped by the parliamentary strategy of the presidential camp, opponents of the pension reform had to face the facts. As part of its parliamentary niche, Thursday, June 8, the Liberties, Independents, Overseas and Territories (LIOT) group ended up withdrawing, at midday, its bill aimed at repealing the postponement of the age retirement age from 62 to 64. A few moments earlier, a minute of silence was observed in the Hemicycle in support of the victims of Annecy, a rare moment of harmony during an extremely tense session.

Before starting to examine the amendments and in the face of the emotion aroused by the attack which claimed six victims, the rapporteur for the text, Charles de Courson (LIOT), requested a suspension of the meeting. At the same time, from the Salle des Quatre-Colonnes, the president of the Renaissance group, Aurore Bergé, believes that at “looking at the appalling attack that has taken place, (…) to be in the hemicycle at the moment with a kind of battle of rag pickers on the admissibility or not of amendments seems to us to be totally out of step with the dread that overwhelms our country when children are targeted “. An exit which causes the consternation of all the oppositions condemning a “instrumentalization”. “I believe that Aurore Bergé has long had expressions that are beyond shame”defended the first secretary of the Socialist Party and deputy of Seine-et-Marne, Olivier Faure.

Back in session after a twenty-minute suspension, the president of the LIOT group, Bertrand Pancher, announced the withdrawal of the bill after stressing that “Parliament and the nation are obviously on their side” families of the victims. “There is nothing left of our text, apart from the amendments that the presidential minority kept. We will not make a fool of ourselves to continue the debate”he then launched, bitter, ending his speech with “Long live Parliament, long live the Republic and long live France!” » to the applause of elected officials from the New People’s Ecologist and Social Union (Nupes) and the National Rally (RN).

Braun-Pivet taken to task

In the same movement, the elected representatives of the left rose to put on their tricolor scarf, an illustration of their disapproval of the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet.
