Tuesday, June 20, Mathilde Panot made a plea to celebrate the first anniversary of the New People’s Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) in the National Assembly. The president of the La France insoumise (LFI) group welcomed the “ideological victories” obtained, according to her, by the “first opposition force” in the Hemicycle, as ” Retirement at 60 years “, a slogan chanted during the social movement, or the Sixth Republic, “an idea that has come a long way” in the minds of the French. “The left emerges strengthened from this sequence”, wants to believe the member for Val-de-Marne.

In 72 public ballots since the start of the term, the deputies of the Socialist Party (PS), LFI, Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV) and the Communist Party (PCF) voted together 33 texts, according to the balance sheet established by the elected socialist of Tarn-et-Garonne Valérie Rabault. For the latter, the Nupes “works well on many subjects”. It does not matter that its founding parties do not always vote in concert. “This has always been the case for the unions of the left”continues the MP. “We have shown that the opposition is on the left”, corroborates the president of the socialist group Boris Vallaud, in reference, for example, to the fight waged against the reform of unemployment insurance. Although a minority in the Assembly, the Nupes claims a few victories, such as the inclusion of the right to abortion in the Constitution or the vote to nationalize EDF.
But even in the event of different votes, the deputies were able to converge on common positions. During the examination of the military programming law, ecologists, socialists and “rebellious” have, for example, voted an amendment providing that the National Assembly decides every five years on “the maintenance or the exit of France from the integrated command of NATO”. “We should have torn each other apart, we were able to get along”, welcomes the LFI deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis Bastien Lachaud, referring to the historical differences on the left on the question of membership of the Atlantic Alliance. “All these compromises are the stones of a program for 2027”wants to believe the president of the environmental group Cyrielle Chatelain.
“A balance that we have not yet found”
But more than the common work in the Hemicycle, public opinion has mainly retained the incidents provoked by the “rebellious” elected officials. LFI is thus considered more worrying, more dangerous for democracy and less fit to govern than the National Rally, according to an IFOP poll published in The Sunday newspaper of June 18. “This poll is true. In the constituency, people complain to me, people say to me: what have you gotten yourself into? testifies the socialist Philippe Brun, elected in the Eure. There is the fantasized feeling of a general heckling. Style problems devour the advances of common work. »
