BRENTONICO. The Trentino animal protection body Enpa Odv calls for rapid and stringent investigations to be ordered to identify and sanction the person responsible for the recent pursuit of a bear on the Brentonico plateau. According to Enpa, this is an “act of contempt also towards people and towards the risk to which he exposed any other motorists”.
“In Brentonico, although most of the bears are now in hibernation, one specimen had the misfortune of running into the persecutor on duty, who chased him in a car, following him closely – from the video he then released, it seems he approached him a couple of meters away, also exposing him to the risk of being hit – forcing him to run until the animal found a way out, leaving the roadway and climbing up, where the car could not follow him. The video highlighted how the bear was subjected to highly harmful behavior: authentic mistreatment”, explains Enpa.
The Enpa also points out that “the pursuer was driving while using his cell phone to film the animal, and in turn invaded the opposite lane, crossing the continuous line. In consideration of the necessity – again reiterated by the president of the council and by the competent councilors – to protect people’s safety, we ask – so the Enpa in a note – that fast and stringent investigations be ordered to identify and sanction this further shameful act of persecution towards bears. The provincial institution has the obligation to protect wildlife and the safety of citizens: only by identifying the perpetrators of crimes and prosecuting them, will the Province be able to claim to fulfill its duties”, concludes the Enpa.
