The quarrel between the family of tourists broke out on Monday, around 11 o’clock, on A. Mickevičiaus street, at the “Best Baltic Hotel”, where a Latvian, a Portuguese and their young son were staying.

Odeta Vaitkevičienė, Chief Specialist of the Communication Sub-Department of the Kaunas County Chief Police Commissariat news portal lrytas.lt informed that the parents’ conflict happened because of the child.

The emergency services number was dialed by the mother, a citizen of Latvia. The boy’s father is a Portuguese citizen.

Lrytas.lt according to information, the dispute arose over the future place of residence of the child: each of the parents wanted their son to live with them in the future.

When the police arrived at the hotel, they decided not to start an investigation because they did not see any signs of a crime or an administrative offense.

According to preliminary data, both parents of the child were sober.

The police officers informed the specialists of the Kaunas Child Rights Protection Department about the incident, who also came to the hotel to clarify the circumstances of the dispute.

When the portal contacted the State Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service, the following response was provided by Anželika Vežbavičiūtė, head of the Kaunas Child Rights Protection Department:

“The defenders of the child’s rights received information about the conflict between the parents from the police and reacted immediately – we have already talked to the family that came from abroad, we have interviewed the child. The child is currently safe with the mother, they did not require emergency care.

We would like to remind you that we respond to all reports about possible violations of the child’s rights and assess the child’s situation in the family. This case is no exception. After fully clarifying the situation and in case of need, we will transfer the information to our colleagues abroad.

It is important to know that children react sensitively to parental disagreements, they can cause psychological stress for the child.

It is understandable that it is difficult to completely avoid conflicts in the family, they can also occur during the trip, but it is important to learn to solve them maturely, with respect for each other and to protect the child from them.

In case of questions, we invite people to consult with child rights defenders by calling toll-free tel. 8 800 10 800, you can also write a message in the chat box on the website vaikoteises.lrv.lt. A child’s rights violation can be reported at the nearest child rights protection department, by filling out a form on the Service’s website or by calling the Emergency Services contact number 112″.
