The Bundeswehr plays an important role in combating the ongoing corona wave!
▶ ︎ 17,500 soldiers were deployed to combat the virus, the Federal Ministry of Defense informed BILD upon request. The quota was specially increased. Previously, only 12,000 armed forces were planned.
The soldiers help, for example, with tracking contacts in the health authorities or with testing in old people’s and nursing homes. They also help administratively in the vaccination centers, check vaccination cards, for example, and help fill out the forms.
Medically trained Bundeswehr specialists (e.g. paramedics) are also active in the vaccination centers and in civil hospitals, providing support, for example, with care, and theoretically even vaccinating. That was already the case in the summer delta wave.
Background: Doctors in uniform also serve in the Bundeswehr. If you have completed a civilian medical degree, you can, for example, have medical advice on vaccinating.
“The medical training of Bundeswehr doctors and civilian doctors is no different. Bundeswehr doctors can provide correspondingly comprehensive help, ”said a spokesman for the Bundeswehr medical service to BILD.

For this reason, the contingent in the fight against Corona was increased to 17,500 soldiers. ”A reserve is kept for this purpose, which could be activated in stages within seven to 14 days.
Only fully vaccinated soldiers are used.
6506 soldiers in Corona on Wednesday

3200 soldiers are currently actively deployed directly in the health authorities, telephoning contact persons of corona sufferers afterwards, and also doing administrative work.
The Bundeswehr acts in the sense of “administrative assistance”, so the municipalities must actively seek support – by application. Then the soldiers are dispatched.
▶ ︎ The soldiers of the “strength pool” are ready even without a request and could be deployed anywhere in Germany within 48 hours of the approval of the administrative assistance application.

Most of the soldiers are currently active in Bavaria (1958).

Bremen has currently not deployed any Bundeswehr soldiers, but has already submitted an application according to BILD information. A contingent is also to be sent there. Most recently, soldiers were active in the Hanseatic city during the delta wave in the summer. 100 armed forces were approved for Hamburg, but were not deployed on Wednesday. The soldiers are only ever active on request and in support.
This also means: As long as health authorities can cover the needs with their regular staff, the soldiers are not allowed to take action. They are intended as express support, never as a substitute.
