The authorities of the Kaliningrad region may suspend the provision of routine medical care in the region due to the worsening situation with the spread of coronavirus, said Regional Minister of Health Alexander Kravchenko.

“Today, the situation with the coronavirus and the burden on the health care system in the region remains extremely difficult. Today we are forced to admit that we are working at the limit, we have used all the resources that we have. Until today, we have not raised the issue of stopping full-fledged routine medical care, unfortunately, we have to come to this step, ”the minister said (quoted by TASS).

According to Kravchenko, 2343 beds for coronavirus patients have been deployed in regional hospitals, of which 2044 are occupied, while 940 patients need oxygen, and 809 of them are connected to artificial lung ventilation devices. “We didn’t have so many people on ventilators,” the official said. He added that the high burden on the health care system is associated, among other things, with the low level of vaccination of the population.
