In the Kaluga region announced the imminent return to work of a number of automakers

by time news

In the near future, some automakers operating in the Kaluga region will resume their activities, said the head of the region, Vladislav Shapsha, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“It is difficult to talk about the timing (of the resumption of work), because it is a very complex, complex process. I will not name the companies, but some (car manufacturers) are going to resume work in the near future, others understand that they are unlikely to succeed this year, but they are making every effort to start work as soon as possible, ”said the Kaluga governor “RIA News”.

The enterprises suspended their activities primarily due to the violation of supply chains and supply of components, Shapsha added. There are three automobile plants in the region – Volkswagen Group Rus, PSMA Rus and Volvo.

The Volvo plant was the first after the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine to announce the cessation of production and sales of cars. Volvo, as well as Scania, MAN, Mercedes and Iveco account for 17% of the garbage truck fleet in Russia. In June, RBC, citing the head of the Russian Ecological Operator (REO), Denis Butsaev, wrote that waste disposal operators would have to completely replace garbage trucks from Western countries within five years – 3,800 vehicles, or 25% of the market.

On April 8, the Japanese automobile concern Mitsubishi Motors also decided to suspend deliveries to Russia and production at the PSMA Rus automobile plant in Kaluga, where production of Outlander crossovers and Pajero Sport frame SUVs has been launched.

Production at the Volkswagen Group Rus plants in Kaluga and Nizhny Novgorod was stopped on March 3 due to a special operation and subsequent problems with the supply of components. Enterprises can resume work in June-July 2022, two sources familiar with the plans of the German company told Vedomosti.
