The “sanitary cordon”, put in place by Jacques Chirac in the 1980s, aimed at preventing the right from making agreements and alliances with the far right, seems far away. Thursday, October 12, Les Républicains (LR) deputies supported certain proposals from the National Rally (RN), during its parliamentary “niche” in the National Assembly.

If no text presented by Marine Le Pen’s troops was adopted, as expected, the RN has sometimes found allies among its neighbors on the bench. Nine LR deputies thus voted in favor of the first article of the text aimed at supporting women suffering from endometriosis. Republicans also tabled amendments seeking to ” improve “ the text of the RN. “It is in itself a political fact, denounced La France insoumise (LFI) MP Clémentine Autain. We do not follow this logic. »

The attitude of these right-wing elected officials stems from the instructions issued by Olivier Marleix. For the president of the LR group in the National Assembly, the subject of voting or not with the RN is no longer one. “No sanitary cordon around our ideas, he had ruled before that day. We have only one course of action, to vote for what we think is useful to the French. »

“Notability of the extreme right”

Before examining the RN’s “niche”, his group said it was ready to support three of the seven proposals put forward by far-right elected officials: that against inclusive writing, on the presumption of majority for foreign minors refusing a bone test or the measure aimed at eliminating or suspending allowances for parents of delinquent children. Copy and paste of old proposals from his camp, according to Mr. Marleix. That on the suspension of family allowances having been notably supported by the president of LR, Eric Ciotti, in the past.

Some right-wing deputies express discomfort with Olivier Marleix’s position. “We are crossing a red line”, alarms Virginie Duby-Muller (Haute-Savoie). His colleague from the Rhône, Alexandre Vincendet, judges that this sequence contributes to the “notability of the extreme right” – a term that he is one of the last to use within the party. “Without realizing it, we become the back-up force of the RN”worries another MP, on condition of anonymity.

But this position of principle seems to have become a minority in the LR group, where Mr. Vincendet and Ms. Duby-Muller are sent back by their comrades to their “Macron-compatibility”. On the right, Aurélien Pradié is one of the last to present the refusal to vote with the RN as “a simple reflex” inherited from the Chirac years, of which the Lot deputy dreams of being the heir. The former number two of the party is alarmed by “general indifference” in which Marine Le Pen was able to talk about « pogroms »on October 10, in order to qualify the Hamas attack against Israel, “without anyone referring her to the origins of her party”.
