The mayor of Ioannina, Thomas Begas, will participate in the new administrative board of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece, being the only elected member from Epirus to be elected, as the mayor of Nikolaos Skoufas, Konstantinos Papasiozos, and the former mayor of Igoumenitsa, Yiannis Lolos, failed to gather the required number of votes.

The winner of the KEDE elections was, as expected, the mayor of Ampelokipi – Menemeni Lazaros Kyrizoglou, with the “Modern Strong Municipalities” faction being voted by 348 elected officials and receiving a percentage of 65.78%, electing 20 of the 31 members of the new Board of Directors “Self-Governing Now” led by the mayor of Athens Haris Doukas received 155 votes (29.30%) and nine seats, while the People’s Coalition received 18 votes (3.40%) and will have one seat in the new Board of Directors, represented by the mayor of Patraion, Kostas Peletidis. The 31st seat is automatically occupied by the mayor of Athens.

“The elections for the selection of the new board of directors of KEDE were a battle of opinions and ideas. This battle was not won by our faction “Self-Government Now”, but the fight for the defense of an autonomous and guardian-free self-government continues with our participation in the new body. I want to thank Haris Doukas from the bottom of my heart for the honorable proposal that he made for me to be included in the party’s ballot and all my colleagues who honored me with their vote, so that I could be elected a member of the new Board of Directors. With its formation, a lot of work awaits us to be able to move self-government forward through our leading collective body”, states T. Begas in his statement.
