The Lithuanian delegation returned home with one bronze medal, and it was won for our country on Friday by judo wrestler Osvaldas Bareikis, coached by Algis Mečkovskis. It was already the third Games and the second medal of this rank for the athlete: Osvaldas also won bronze at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics. He also competed in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

In total, athletes from 79 countries won medals. With one bronze medal, Lithuania took 79th place in the final unofficial medal tally together with 6 other countries: Vietnam, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Mauritius, Nepal and Pakistan.

All countries won one bronze. The athletes of Russia, the aggressor who started the war in Ukraine, who had a large delegation, stayed next to the representatives of Lithuania, one step higher.

Overall, Chinese athletes won the most medals – as many as 220, including 94 gold ones. The representatives of Great Britain remained in second place – 124 awards, including 49 gold ones, and the USA athletes came third – they “sparkled” 105 medals, including 36 gold ones.

The French hosts were content with 8th place and 75 medals, including 19 gold. Fighting against the aggressor Russia, Ukraine took the 7th position – 82 medals, including 22 gold.

Meanwhile, it is not known why the envoys of Russia, who started the war in Europe, who fought as neutral athletes, were content with just 2 bronze medals at the para-games. They were in 78th place in the final standings. This aggressor country was represented by 85 athletes.

Uzbek athletes, who won a total of 26 medals in Paris, including even 10 gold, won quite unusually high – even the 13th position.

The Lithuanian national paralympic team was represented in Paris by athletes Aušra Garunkšnytė, Oksana Dobrovolskaja, Eivydė Vainauskaitė, Donatas Dundzys, Andrius Skuja, swimmers Gabrielė Čepavičiūtė and Edgaras Matakas, shooter Raimeda Bučinskytė and judo wrestler Osvaldas Bareikis.

For the Lithuanian team, it was the anniversary, the tenth Paralympic Games after the restoration of Independence.
